One of the things that we almost skipped was the bread crumb topping. In a word… DON’T! The toasted crumbles from a dairy-free loaf of bread I got from Trader Joe’s was the icing on the cake (or in this case… the crumbs on the gratin). Although there was a lot of prep-time for this recipe, it was well worth it. Perfect comfort food for a winter’s day.
